Steve Bruce

Chairman and Chief Technology Officer

When did you join Team DeltaTek?

I joined Deltatek in April 2018

Prior to joining DeltaTek, tell us a little about what you’ve been up to?

August 2020 marks my 40th anniversary in the oil and gas industry. I started as a Field Supervisor with Schlumberger in 1980 and spend over 25 years with them, both in the UK and internationally. I have lived and worked in Dubai (twice), Saudi Arabia, Libya, Kuwait, the USA and Malaysia.

In 2010 I was the founding CEO of Darcy Technologies, a private equity-backed start-up company competing in the global sand control businessDarcy was sold to Halliburton in Dec 2016.

Since 2016 I’ve been involved mostly in technology development for investor-backed businesses.

What does your job entail?

My job as Chairman is to ensure Deltatek exhibits good corporate governance and compliance, agree company strategy and maintain its vision and mission. As Chief Technology Officer my role is to manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio including the UK and international granted and ongoing Patent filings.

Have there been any highlights since joining DeltaTek? What do you enjoy about working here?

As a technology developer, the two biggest highlights have been the industry adoption of DeltaTek’s new technology in 2019 and its confidence to continue this into 2020. The second highlight has been the maturing of DeltaTek’s patent portfolio from applications to granted patents.

Is there anything that you’ve learned about the toolstechnology or company that has surprised you?

I was first involved in the cementing side of well construction when I entered the industry in 1980, on re-entering this service line with DeltaTek I was very surprised by the lack of mechanical innovation that had taken place over the last 40 years, I’m proud to be part of a team introducing new technology to the well construction industry.
